To paraphrase the words of Benjamin Franklin: “We have a Democracy… if we can keep it!”
In November 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected President of the United States of America. Subsequently, a large segment of the population—mostly concentrated in the thirteen slave-holding states—objected to Lincoln’s election.
Consequently, on April 12, 1861, the South Carolina Militia opened-fire upon the United States Army’s Fort Sumter, a military-act that eventuated in the horrific carnage that resulted in the loss of an entire generation of young American-men, wrought by the American Civil War.
In the year 2020, Joseph R. Biden was elected President of the United States of America. A large segment of the population—mostly those who supported the “MAGA” policies of the then defeated-incumbent, “Lame-Duck” President, Donald J. Trump—attacked the United States Capitol.
Consequently, on January 6, 2021, the mob of disgruntled supporters of the “Lame-Duck” President of the United States, by storming and invading the U.S. Capitol…the seat of our Democracy…, the mob’s attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of power, unleased a violent Insurrection against the United States of America.
“Those who do not learn from the mistakes of history, are doomed to repeat them.”
