Racism shouldn’t have even begun or continued to exist at all. Let us delve into the absurdity of racism and help raise sentiments against this discrimination.

By now, we can tell how racism has continued to progress and evolve. Even in this current period, we are still engulfed by the monstrosity of this serious matter. Many individuals of color are still struggling and even suffering because of the wickedness and immorality of racist people.

The thing is, it’s a frustrating subject because, in the first place, racism should have never existed. Why are we handling something that should have never been a thing?

The absurdity of racism is, in fact, true. It is a reality that racism is just plain futile. However, it is also a reality that evil people exist and continue to reside in our world. Whoever is a part of this vileness feeds off of negativity and immoral acts. Thus, racist people have started racial injustice and discrimination out of their selfish and greedy ways. Their reasons for partaking in such discrimination explain how racism should have never even existed – it’s all rooted in vain.

The problem still thrives and advances into something more destructive. While many are also against racism and even combat racist practices, racist people exist, and it’s going to be a challenge to alter their beliefs and perspectives. However, it is always a possibility that it can be put to an end, taken away from its existence. One of many things we can do is stand up, voice out, and battle against racial discrimination.

The Absurdity of Racism: Reasons Why People Are Racist

That said, let us further dig into the absurdity of racism by knowing why some people are racist and dissecting why each reason is absurd. At the end of the day, there are no reasons or excuses for racism. It’s simply wrong and should never thrive nor progress.

Reason #1: Quick Judgments

While it is an innate thing that human beings are wired to form quick judgments as a way to stay safe in some situations, when it comes to far more complex matters, it is highly considered to think morally. Regarding complex issues that involve unconscious bias, upbringing, media we consume, and decisions, we have the choice to avoid rash and insensitive judgments.

One of the main seeds of racism is the persistence of racist beliefs in most societies. Because of this, the seed blooms into something harmful, heavily impacting how people are treated and the kinds of opportunities they get.

We, humans, have the ability to control how we judge others. It is absurd how we can just let off racist people be harmfully racist to others about something they’re fully in control of.

Reason #2: Greed and Self-Interest

While there is a report that numerous experts believe that racist beliefs were developed to justify self-interest and greed, it also justifies its absurdity. It’s quite absurd how there are really people out there thriving in selfish ways for their own benefit. By being one of the contributors of racism, they seek to reap benefits and rewards from victims to satisfy their own needs.

Reason #3: Scapegoating

Another reason for racism is when people blame others for their own faults. As soon as people experience personal problems and struggles in life, suddenly, the reason for such is passed onto the other person rather than themselves. Without a doubt, this reason originates from selfishness and, therefore, an absurdity.

Reason #4: Media

Media representations have a significant influence on many people. The way media depicts and portrays people of different races in various media platforms such as books, TV, movies, and music greatly impacts how society views race and people in general. Thus, negative media representation also happens to exist and poison minds.

Moreover, when people also choose to feed off of such negativity and consume negative media, they begin to grow their lust for hatred and depravity. Similarly, some artists, producers, authors, etc., also have the choice to avoid negative portrayal and misrepresentation of people of color. At the end of the day, we have a choice, and bad people tend to always make the wrong choices.

At last, we can conclude that there are no actual reasons or excuses for racism. If you ever happen to witness or experience such an issue, report it, seek support, or be the support. Let’s continue to amplify the voices of those who struggled and suffered from racial discrimination and injustices by standing up for them and raising awareness.
